Excellent translated Crime Fiction

🌙 This is a book I read recently that I LOVED!
.
This photo is of Six Four, a detective novel written by Hideo Yokoyama and translated into English from the original Japanese. I ADORED this book.
.
Actually, I chose it from the library, brought it home and then realised my husband had already borrowed it and read it the year before. I loved this book so much that my husband bought me my own copy as a surprise gift because I was so sad to send it back to the library! I wanted to put it on my shelf!
.
This book is very gentle and quite different from other mystery / crime books I have read. The word I want to use is ’emotional’. It just moved my heart on an epic level, despite being such a gentle, quiet story, and I really loved the main character, a middle aged dude who used to be a violent crimes detective before being forcibly transferred to the media management department of his police office. The book really came at detective and police work, the media and press, and the central mystery from a completely different angle, unlike any I’d read before, and it balanced the personal internal transformation and worries of the central character (and his wife) so beautifully and delicately against the bigger cold case mystery. I just loved it so much.
.
So if you enjoy mystery novels or detective stories at all, I think this one is wonderful and I’m so glad to have read it. And so pleased to have my own copy to sit on our pretty book shelves in our home!

THANK YOU FOR READING
