Fantasy maps, interesting books and upcoming projects

Here is a collection of random things from the past week … including some fantasy book updates and a sneak peak of my fantasy world in map form.

Sneak peak of my current fantasy writing project! โ ๐ŸŒ™

.โ
Pictured here is a map in progress for my fantasy world, the Red Kingdom, which is still being worked on by the talentedย @rorybt_art
.โ
I think it is so beautiful, and it feels like a dream come true to have a map for the world I’ve been building in my head (and also a miracle to see the artist create a coherent landform from my mindless chaotic scribbles!). I’m so excited to share more about this land ahead of a special announcement tomorrow! โ
.โ
So this is me taking a plunge into a brand new genre (very dark fantasy fiction for adult readers) and here is what’s happening in 2022:โ
โ .
.
๐ŸŒ™ 01 April 2022: Launching my new website for my adult fiction under a new pen name to keep it seperate from my more romantic teen fiction already published. Hopefully some of my lovely existing readers might be interested in my new fantasy fiction, but it is a major genre shift and I know it won’t work for everybody, which is totally okay! โ
โ .
๐ŸŒ™ 01 April: And I’ll also be releasing my first ever fantasy fiction tomorrow (eeek!). This will be a short introduction into my world and this new direction. (And yes, I do realise tomorrow is April Fools Day… ๐Ÿ˜น)โ
โ .
๐ŸŒ™ July 2022: I’ll have a short novel coming out in July, set in this same fantasy world! This novel is a bit of a spin off from the main series and more like a taster.โ
โ .
๐ŸŒ™ November 2022: Book one in my new fantasy series is coming out in November this year. Oh my goodness, but I’m a little nervous, but I’ve been loving working behind the scenes on these dark, twisty and creepy stories, and though I’m a bit scared, I’m also so excited to share them with everyone!โ
.โ
.โ
So keep an eye out tomorrow for a taster of my first fantasy fiction, some news, and for those interested in reading my fantasy, I’ll have some links ready.โ
.โ
Wish me luck!โ  ๐Ÿ™€

What are you reading at the moment? ๐ŸŒ™

.
This photo shows my current read, a fantasy by Andrzej Sapkowski (who also wrote the Witcher series) and the book is called Tower of Fools.
.
This one is a historical fiction fantasy, so is very much set in the real world and deals with the complicated politics and history of Europe in the 1400s … But the main character also has some magic and there are some creepy crawlie creatures creeping about!
.
I’m really enjoying it so far (about 150 words in) and though it’s definitely a dense book with loads of historical detail to keep up with, I’m really liking the setting and am fascinated to see where it all goes!

Thinking a lot about writing and stories lately, as I gear up (and gather my courage, haha) to share my first foray into darker fantasy for adult readers … Looks like I’ll be sharing something by the end of the week! Eeek!
.
I am both extremely excited and quite terrified, but life is short so I just want to plunge in, do my best, and have fun! (Bit weird to describe dark murder fantasy fiction as being fun…but there you go ๐Ÿ˜น)
.
This photo was taken of an olive tree during a neighbourhood lunch break stroll. Pretty silver fence and silver leaves.

Do you have a favourite type of fictional monster? ๐ŸŒ™

.
I am realising lately just how much I enjoy zombie stories. I never seem to get enough of them and watch lots of zombie shows and movies …
.
The book pictured here is Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno Garcia and it is not about zombies, it is actually about vampires! It’s set in a near future Mexico City and the author calls it her neo-noir, which makes sense to me. Imagine a gritty future world of neon signs and an underworld of cartels… It’s kind of a crime mob story, except with heaps of vampires too.
.
My favourite thing about age old monster stories (vampires, zombies etc.) is that many of the new media featuring them often try to do something fresh and different, so that’s pretty fun! It’s still the monster you know but just a little bit different!

In case you can’t tell … these are fluffy cat feet. ๐ŸŒ™
