Creepy self-doubt (yuck!) and other writerly things

So here’s another little entry into my writing life update, as I continue to work away on a big dark and twisty fantasy manuscript, a fantasy novella and a little fantasy story! This is what I’ve been up to this week in happy snaps (reading / writing, family and living!).

πŸŒ™ FRIDAY WRITING UPDATEπŸŒ™ – 18 February 2022
.
Mostly, this week I was feeling really great about my writing. I have done a LOT of hours, actually beat a little deadline for getting some self-edits done, and was feeling really good about all my writing projects and really excited about sharing them in the future, until suddenly … I just wasn’t. I totally hit a wall. πŸ™€
.
I was just saying to a friend that being an author honestly feels like an eternal merry-go-round of either thinking ‘I’m so proud of this thing I’ve written’, to the opposite extreme of ‘Everyone is going to laugh at me!’. Haha. I bet every author who reads this can relate! Or maybe every creator in general.😹
.
Anyway, I’m quite used to the merry-go-round by now, so it doesn’t bother me as much anymore, and I’m much quicker to sort myself out when I have silly thoughts. For instance, I’m quite fine again already, I’ve crawled out of my self-doubt hole and am back on the ‘feeling alright about my writing’ path again. By tomorrow, I’m sure I’ll be over the moon excited about it all. Every time I tell my husband I think my manuscript is bad, he just reminds me I say this every.single.time. I think he knows me better than I know myself! ❀️
.
Anyway, on to my actual writing update … this week I had the fun (insert sarcasm here, haha) job of doing word searches during my edits of my manuscript. There are a LOT of words I overuse (this particular manuscript had people’s boots crunching over gravel rather a lot!). Some include: eyes, shrug, stare and stuff like that. Then I tried to also get rid of useless words like up, down, above etc. which I also use a lot (and really, the sentences are usually exactly the same without those words!) as well as heaps of other useless bits and bobs that need removing.
.
So anyway … doing word searches takes a LONG time. Like over a week of writing time … but now I am finally finished. So yay!
.
And that was this week’s achievement! 😻

How nice to be a lazy cat! 😸

Check out this beauty of a black cat!!

My current read is an atmospheric and creepy historical murder mystery! 🌘
.
Pictured here is the book The Red Palace by June Hur.
.
I’m a big fan of June Hur’s YA mysteries set in Joseon Korea.

I like them because they are creepy and filled with murder (don’t ask me why I like murder books, I just do! Murder mysteries are my favourite!) And also because I am very interested in Korean history after studying the language on and off for many years (mostly off, but I’m proud to say I’ve kept up fairly consistent study this time for over a year!). Also I like it because I watch ALL of the kdramas ALL of the time and sageuks are my favourite! (Currently re-watching Tale of Nokdu, just finished The Red Sleeve (❀️😿), and nearly finished currently airing Moonshine).

My lovely husband and our less lovely cat.… 😹😹 no, she is a fine cat. She just likes to bite my feet at night sometimes, but, as you can see from this photo, she is very cute, too! 😻

And that’s it for this week for my random happy snaps!
