This week’s writing update delves into my fantasy manuscript and other projects, and features lots of happy snaps from life and what I’m reading π

π FRIDAY WRITING UPDATEπ – 11 February 2022
.
Well, I thought I’d give this a try, just to do an overview of my writing progress each week, and maybe help me stay accountable for getting some work done on my projects π
.
So this week, here is what I was up to:
.
.
So, I’ve mentioned on here before that I’m working on a big old fantasy book for adult readers, which I am absolutely loving! The whole thing has been really fun and I particularity loved the excitement of building a whole new world for my story. This was really the first time I’ve ever made up a world from scratch and I have just become obsessed with that process. It is such a creative and fun thing to do!
.
So basically, I have been busily working on editing my fantasy book manuscript this week, and that has been my main focus! I’ve gone through multiple rounds of feedback, and am now doing some cleaning up of the lines. I’ve never particularly been a huge fan of editing (or at least, its not my favourite part of the writing process) but it is definitely exciting seeing this crazy project come together and improve with each round of work I do!
.
This week I also did some work on my blurb for this story and workshopped that a little (though it still needs a bit more attention I think!)
.
I’ve also been working in the background on a short story and a novella set in this same fantasy world, so I am excited to share both of those over the next few months π
.
Basically, this new book is filled with:
.
.
π. Murder (eeek!)
π. A slave with big dreams to make something more of herself
π. An isolated island frontier steeped in strange lore
β. A drowned god in the ocean
βοΈ. A twisty mystery
.
.
So that’s it folks, I’ve just been neck deep in edits all week!
What about everyone else? what have you been reading or writing this week?

READING
This photo is of the fantasy book THE LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA. I was pretty excited about this one, because it is set in a huge expansive fantasy world (very dark!) but is kind of like a crime fiction story, or so I’d been told. I actually feel like it was more of a heist story, complete with loads of banter, and not quite the dark noir mystery I was expecting. But that is okay, it was more my own expectations that were wrong, I think. β
.β
I enjoyed it, especially the world-building, which was extremely cool (and the opening prologue thingie when we follow how Locke ends up getting sold into his new found family… gosh I LOVED that part, so dark and creepy and well-written!). β
And that’s it for my randomness for this week π
